Discover What One Study Showed About Isolated CBD And Wholesale CBD

Anyone who’s interested in the superior therapeutic properties of cannabis extract that comes from the whole CBD plant as opposed to the single molecule cannabidiol will be very interested in this groundbreaking study that comes from Israel. The article was completed in February 2015 and published in the Pharmacology and Pharmacy Journal. In this article, you find that it poignantly challenges reports propagated by the medical industrial complex and Big Pharma which claim that preparations from Botanicals are largely low grade and less powerful than single-molecule compounds that are believed to be purer.

The title of the article is, “Overcoming the Bell-Shaped Dose Response of Cannabidiol by using Cannabis Extract Enriched in Cannabidiol”. The co-author Lumir Hanus discovered the anandamide which was a significant find. Mr. Hanus and two of his colleagues at Hebrew University of Jerusalem investigated scientific literature and found that over the last 15 years there were a significant number of studies that had put all their focus on how single molecule CBD reduced inflammation in animals. It had a positive effect on inflammatory bowel disease, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, and even multiple sclerosis.

Their study demonstrated that when pure CBD was administered that the effect declined after a certain amount of it was given. This is sometimes called the bell-shaped dose response. It was found that this pure CBD would only have good results when given in a very specific amount. But if the amount was lowered or increased then there was no beneficial effect. This significantly reduces its overall usefulness.

The study was able to conclusively show that whenever CBD exceeded a specific amount then it’s therapeutic usefulness diminished. The team in Israel then decided to test whether or not the whole plant CBD extract would have the same reduced effect when they gave it to mice. The Hope was that the CBD-rich Cannabis would be able to show its benefits without the limitation. The aim of their study was to find a source of CBD that would eliminate the Bell-Shaped Response meaning the effect reduces.

The scientists were able to get a CBD-rich strain from an Israeli medical marijuana producer. It was called clone 202 and the strain called Avidekel has almost no THC which means it can be used without intoxicating the recipient. The origins of the strain come from Spain where they developed a tonic called ‘Cannatonic’.

The extract the researchers used from clone 202 had just under 18% CBD, and just over 1% THC, as well as just over 1% of CBC. It had just .2% of CBG and only traces of CBN and CBDV. They gave this to mice to see if it exhibited any anti-inflammatory and pain-killing effects.

So that they could compare the overall effects, the researchers gave pure CBD to another group of mice and compared it’s an inflammatory and analgesic effects. Alongside those studies were a comparison of a single molecule CBD against the plant CBD and what effect it had on the production of tumor necrosis (TNFa). TNF-alpha is believed to be associated with diseases like Alzheimer’s, irritable bowel syndrome, cancer, and clinical depression.

They’re testing of pure CBD simply confirmed what they had already found in other research. When using only pure CBD it has an effect that lowers when too much or too little is used and means its usage has a very narrow parameter. But the use of the Clone 202 extract had a very different result. It was found that the level of pain reduction was dependent on the dose was given. This was the same findings with regard to TNFa production and inflammation. This means that in complete opposition to what big Pharma reported, that the whole plant CBD would have an effect that was in direct correlation with the dosage given. This makes this medicine clinically useful.

It was also discovered that a fairly small amount of CBD from the Clone extract was enough to produce significant pain relief compared to a much larger dosage of the pure CBD that was required. It was further found that while the pure CBD could only be used in a very specific amount to be effective, that even if an overdose of whole plant CBD was administered it would still have a positive effect. It was found that when a dosage that was above the optimal amount was given from the Clone 202 oil that there was a leveling off of effectiveness which means that it too does have a plateau.

The Israeli researchers concluded that the 202 extract is significantly superior to the pure CBD for treating inflammatory conditions. It is believed that the increased results of the whole plant extract might be because of interactions between a significant number of phytocannabinoids and other plant compounds. It is considered to be likely that these other components work together to achieve anti-inflammatory results and that stopped the bell-shaped dose-response that the pure CBD gets.

The researchers decided to also examine how the extract compared with other commercial anti-inflammatory drugs and painkillers. They were able to find that the pure CBD and the 202 extract had better results than aspirin. And while aspirin did have a slight effect on the production of TNFa, it was nowhere near that of the pure CBD and clone 202 extract.

The study concluded that when whole plant CBD is used, that other plant components within the whole plant work together to give a significantly increased result over the pure CBD. There’s been a great deal of research in recent years with the effort to isolate particular components in herbal medicine for their therapeutic use. The Israeli researchers believe that their study has demonstrated that the medical field needs to expand its thinking and realize that people can benefit by using whole plant formulas and not just synthetic drugs alone. They further concluded that the use of plant extracts allowed for lower amounts of active components which reduced any adverse effects. This study shows how extracts from whole herbal plants are sometimes more effective than their synthetic counterparts.
